Falcone's Crossroads

Where This Meets That

Tuesday Tunage – Plant & Krauss

“Tuesday Tunage” is a weekly spotlight for music I deem worthy of a spotlight. To make it worth all of our time, I’ll do my best to emphasize tunes you probably haven’t heard before that represent the art in all its glorious varieties.

Last week’s events still fresh in my head and in my chest, I’m slowing the tunage down this week with this country and western number from an unlikely duo.

In 2007, rock legend Robert Plant and bluegrass-country superstar Allison Krauss collaborated on an album called Raising Sand.  The album would win five Grammy Awards, including Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for this week’s spotlight song, “Killing the Blues”.

The sparsely-arranged somberness of “Killing the Blues” is lifted by gorgeous vocal harmonies and an always-welcome pedal steel accompaniment to create one of the most beautiful songs in recent years and one that just feels right for today.
