Falcone's Crossroads

Where This Meets That

Tuesday Tunage – K. Frimpong

“Tuesday Tunage” is a weekly spotlight for music I deem worthy of a spotlight. To make it worth all of our time, I’ll do my best to emphasize tunes you probably haven’t heard before that represent the art in all its glorious varieties.

This week’s spotlight falls on obscure Ghanaian highlife singer K. Frimpong and His Cubano Fiestas.  There’s not a lot of information available online about Frimpong (Wikipedia contains all of two sentences), but his song “Whehwe Mu Na Yi Wo Mpena” gives a rousing example of the rich fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythm and bright, jazzy horns born in the Gold Coast.
