The CD inlay of Lenny Kravitz’s superb 1991 album Mama Said includes a great portrait of him in black and white. When I first saw it, I thought it just begged to be drawn. I actually started the below drawing in early ’98 then put down my pencil for about a decade before coming back across it and completing it.
I drew it with standard No. 2 pencils and touched it up with charcoal accents and still consider it one of my best works.
After I finished, I started tinkering around with some basic graphic editing tools and thought colorizing only the beads added a pretty sweet element.
