Falcone's Crossroads

Where This Meets That

Tuesday Tunage – The Decemberists

“Tuesday Tunage” is a weekly spotlight for music I deem worthy of a spotlight. To make it worth all of our time, I’ll do my best to emphasize tunes you probably haven’t heard before that represent the art in all its glorious varieties.

Ahoy, me Hearties! Hoist up the ol’Jolly Roger and batten down the hatches, fer this week’s spotlight falls on a rollicking tale of betrayal and revenge on the high seas!

Years before the indie folk rock band The Decemberists found the “X” on the treasure map with their 2011 hit song “Down by the Water”, they would regularly wrap up their concerts with the epic fan favorite YouTubed below called, “The Mariner’s Revenge Song”.

I love the movements in the song, the backstory, the plot twists, and the hero’s Inigo Montoya-like determination to set right the scales of justice set so wrong against his mother. Tip: it’s even better enjoyed over a pint (or ten).
