Among the vows taken by the Missionaries of the Poor are poverty and free service to the poor. As such, they have no private possessions or bank accounts, and they live in community, sharing all things in common. All their material needs are provided for through donations.
One of M.O.P.’s primary means of raising funds is through their inspirational and award-winning music. Their founder, Father Richard Ho Lung, writes most of their songs in a unique Caribbean style that reflects their Jamaican roots.
Not only do they produce and sell their own CD’s as Father Ho Lung and Friends, but they also produce and tour with award-winning shows. While their shows provide an excellent means of fundraising, their mission in these performances goes far beyond that. Every show is evangelistic in nature, entertaining large audiences with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
On the weekends of March 17/18 and March 24/25, the Missionaries of the Poor will present beautiful and entertaining concerts at St. John Neumann, All Saints and St. Benedict!
