Where This Meets That

Weird Wednesday Wordplay

You know that old spelling rule that goes, “‘i’ before ‘e’ except after ‘c'”?

Of course, there’s an exception to every rule (or is there?), and I happened upon one this morning:  “i” before “e” except after “w” in the word “weird”.

Weird, huh?

Always good to see a word live up to its name, not like those non-conformist self-contradicting words like “abbreviation” (long word to mean short), “driveway” (where we park), or “parkway” (where we drive).

So, way to go, “Weird”!  Today is your day!

Several times lately I’ve run into a problem with the i-e also in the word neice. I’ve said that little ditty over and over again and I think it is ei in neice but I surely have had problems getting it straight in my mind. I’ve just accepted it to be ei since the N is not a C. Who knows.
    Can get complicated.

    It is actually “niece”, though.
